The tour starts and ends in Bourton-on-the-Water, the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', which can be reached from Moreton-in-Marsh train station with direct links to London Paddington.

Day to Day Itinerary

Each day's walk offers something different from wooded valleys, open farmland and limestone cottages.

Panoramic views coming down into Winchcombe and meandering along the banks of the Windrush River make for the end to 2 perfect days of walking.

DAY ONE

Arrive in Bourton-on-the-Water and overnight

The nearest train station is Moreton-in-Marsh or Cheltenham Spa.
There is much to enjoy in the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', not least the River Windrush and the succession of little stone bridges. 
DAY TWO

Bourton-on-the-Water to Winchcombe
13 miles/21 km

A lovely route through Lower Slaughter, with its mill, and Upper Slaughter with its ford. Continue through the pretty villages of Naunton and Guiting Power (both with good pubs), before passing close to Sudeley Lodge where George III paused on his journey from Cheltenham as you descend into Winchcombe.
DAY THREE

Winchcombe to Bourton-on-the-Water
13 miles/21 km

The return route takes you back past Sudeley Castle and then up to the Cotswold escarpment and onto the old Salt Way. Continue to Hawling, then pass the sites of vanished medieval villages before rejoining the Windrush as it burbles into Bourton.
DAY FOUR

Depart

Depart after breakfast.

Many of our walks can be shortened by using either public transport or taxis. We can also adapt these routes to suit the time you have available and your walking capabilities.

Despite walking more than 45 km's in two days it was really relaxing and we were very lucky with beautiful early autumn weather. The scenery was beautiful and so varied – changing from woodlands to fields, hills to valleys.
The route notes were clear and informative, though a couple of landmarks were hidden behind trees - having the map app was a good backup when we were unsure. Everything was waiting for us at our first accommodation and everything was organised and worked seamlessly.
